Our hotel 19th, Nov 2024. Author: Isabel Cubero If you have already made a booking with us and are seeking directions to Ecolirios, here’s the essential information you need. Ecolirios is located approximately one hour and forty minutes from the capital, San Jose. The journey mainly consists of paved roads and highways, but it is advisable to travel in a 4×4 vehicle for optimal access. The final stretch of the trip involves around 40 minutes of travel on dirt roads, which will enhance your experience as you immerse yourself in the tranquility of the tropical rainforest. Ecolirios is a boutique concept ecolodge. From the outset of its construction, the establishment has been designed as a luxurious hotel situated in a remote, lush tropical forest. The founders aimed to embody the purest essence of Costa Rica, opting for a location that is removed from urban civilization and its associated pollution. The location in question is situated within the province of Limón, specifically in the canton of Guácimo. Although this area may not rank among Costa Rica’s most renowned tourist destinations, it is experiencing significant growth in tourism due to its proximity to the slopes of the Turrialba volcano. Given the unique topography and the presence of numerous waterfalls in the vicinity, there has been minimal human intervention, which contributes to the area’s appeal. Consequently, it is not surprising that the hotel is included in the tourist offerings along the Water Route. The recommended route our visitors should take if coming from San José is route 32, better known as the Braulio Carrillo (ZurquÍ), a journey of approximately 40 minutes to reach the city of Guápiles. Then you will have to drive to Guacimo, which is located 13 km from the town of Guápiles. The road to Guacimo is in excellent condition as it is a newly completed highway. Now, once you arrive at the bridge over the Guacimo River, you will have to take the first entrance on the right-hand side by a dirt road to the hotel (4×4 vehicle recommended) with a duration of 30 minutes to our Hotel Ecolirios. It is not recommended to drive in sedan-type vehicles or low vehicles; it is recommended at least a 4×2 vehicle or a 4×4 vehicle due to the unexpected rainfall in the area. Suppose you are going to the Ecolirios Hotel in Tortuguero or La Fortuna. In that case, you will have to drive to the city of Guápiles and from there to Guácimo, taking the same ballast road that you will find at the first entrance on the right-hand side after the bridge over the Guácimo River. It is essential to clarify that you will find signs of the hotel during the whole route, which will facilitate your journey. For customers driving from the South Caribbean from the cities of Puerto Viejo or Cahuita, you must take route 36 to the city of Limón and then take route 32 and drive to the town of Guácimo, where you will make a detour into the city of Guácimo to enter through the ballast road that is located at the first entrance on the right-hand side after the bridge over the Guácimo River. Atractions 18th, Nov 2024. Author: Isabel Cubero In the foothills, south of Guápiles and Guácimo, lies the Zona Protectora los Acuíferos de Pococí y Guácimo, created in 1987 to protect valuable and fragile forest systems, rivers, waterfalls, and more than fifty springs. These two forested areas become the core zone of the 25,898-hectare Aquifer Biological Corridor, whose main attractions are the rivers that flow through its territory and lush tropical forests. To promote the harmonious utilization of land within this region, the establishment of the ‘Ruta del Agua’ (Water Route) was initiated in 2019. This organization, comprising over 40 enterprises distributed across 12 communities, encompasses all territories situated south of Route 32. This route extends from the Costa Rica River in the Guápiles district of the Pococí canton to La Argentina in the Pocora district of the Guácimo canton. Within this extensive area, located on the slopes of the Turrialba volcano, a tourism initiative has been developed that is grounded in community-based rural tourism and ecotourism models. This offer encompasses a range of activities, including guided tours of integrated farms featuring crops such as coffee, as well as a comprehensive cocoa and chocolate experience. Participants will engage in farm animal management practices and organic farming techniques. Additionally, opportunities for hiking are available, which include excursions to rivers and waterfalls. Guests can also enjoy the serene activity of bird and plant observation within a botanical garden. Furthermore, this experience allows visitors to familiarize themselves with the local culture through the tasting of traditional cuisine in various restaurants. Also included is the experience of recreational tilapia fishing and the acquisition of handicrafts developed by local artisans. Sleeping lulled by frogs, leaving stress behind in a pool, breathing pristine air, observing birds such as toucans and even macaws, or waking up at dawn to the song of hundreds of birds and the fresh mountain air are all part of a unique experience that allows humans to get in touch with nature. Water resource management plays a crucial role in Ecolirios’s operations. Situated within one of the country’s most significant water corridors, the hotel benefits from a favorable climate of regular rainfall. This consistent precipitation supports the lush tropical forests in the area, which are the source of numerous natural springs, contributing to the region’s rich biodiversity and water supply. One of the primary attractions in this region is the opportunity to visit three of the most picturesque waterfalls in Costa Rica: the Dos Novillos Waterfall, the Rio Blanco Waterfall, and the Chindama Waterfall. These destinations are distinguished by their suitability for trekking and nature enthusiasts. It is advisable to undertake these treks during the summer months, as this period is characterized by the swelling of the rivers and an increased volume of water that flows through these natural features. Author: Agnes Arce Costa Rica is internationally recognized as a premier destination for its significant efforts toward achieving carbon neutrality, as well as for its sustainable and ecological tourism development models. For over two decades, various certifications, such as the Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST) from the Costa Rican Tourism Board, Blue Flag programs, and the protection of designated Wildlife Areas, have contributed to the country’s esteemed reputation. Sustainability in Costa Rica has transcended mere trends and has become an intrinsic aspect of the tourism services that clients now expect. In alignment with this commitment, the owners of Ecolirios Lodge, drawing upon their professional expertise as architects, have established a boutique lodge that emphasizes the judicious use of resources and space, along with the integration of clean energy. This approach ensures that each guest’s experience is genuinely sustainable. Given the prevailing climatic conditions in the Guacimo region, characterized by consistently sunny days, the hotel has implemented a sustainable and ecological energy system to supply power to each room without reliance on fossil fuels. Each room is equipped with solar panels that harness energy from sunlight, promoting sustainability. The hotel aspires to serve as a model of inspiration for adopting such practices and aims to contribute to their broader implementation. The design of the rooms plays a crucial role in creating a harmonious living environment. Each room features large windows that enhance the connection with nature and maximize the influx of natural light. This thoughtful architectural choice enriches the overall ambiance and ensures that every space is illuminated effectively. A noteworthy aspect of our establishment is our strong connection with the land and our commitment to organic production methods for the products used in our restaurant and cooking class experiences. Some of the ingredients used in our kitchen are sourced from our local garden, while the remainder are procured from regional producers. Additionally, children and adults can explore our farm to gain insights into the production of Creole hen eggs and learn more about the various animals that inhabit our property. Also, it is essential to let you know that over half of the land associated with our hotel remains in its natural state and is protected. We recognize that our most significant asset is conserving the tropical forests in the northern region adjacent to the Turrialba volcano and the rich biodiversity that thrives within these lands.
